Rogers service in Timmins

#1

Post by aj123 » Thu Dec 04, 2014 4:49 pm

Hello all,

I recently accepted a job in Timmins and am set to move there near the end of January. I am currently using Rogers as my cell phone service provider, but my contract is just about up and I have a decision to make with regards to whether or not I should stick with Rogers or move to another provider. I would usually go to a Rogers store and ask this type of question, but I feel like people that actually live in Timmins would be able to provide me more accurate information. I wanted to ask how the service is in the area? Any problems with reception or anything? I am from Toronto area and the service is okay here but I just wanted to make check to see if there was another provider that would suit me better upon my move to Timmins. Thanks in advance for the info!

If you are moving within the City Limits, you are find with rogers. There are some area's "outside" of the city limits that have some deadzones. Other providers here are Telus, and Bell.

Also, to elaborate on what Kramer mention, the area of the Hwy 11 corridor with the small towns of Cochrane, Smooth Rock Falls all the way to Kapuskasing as no Roger's service. This area is approximately 1 hour away or so from Timmins. I have Koodo (Telus) which gives an excellent service all around the north. Hope this helps and welcome to Timmins.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I plan on moving within city limits so it looks like Rogers should be fine. Thanks for the help!

Within the built up parts of Timmins Rogers is fine. BUT, if you travel then Northern Tel/Bell or Telus are much better. Bell and Telus are better even within Timmins and have more towers. Telus uses Bell/Northern Tel towers in our area.

aj123: do you plan on travelling a lot and if so, where to? I used to have Rogers but switched to Telus because I travelled a lot for my previous job. Rogers hasn't expanded much coverage in the area for awhile now while Bell/Telus have.

I switched from Rogers to Telus recently and couldn`t be happier. You will find the service faster and more reliable. BTW, Rogers only has 3G service in Timmins. Telus and Bell offer LTE.

Rogers seems to have the worst coverage ... (well unless you live along 17 I guess)

I love how fast fhe Rogers LTE 4G works here in Timmins, HOWEVER, sucks for dead zones! My cell does not work past Canadian Tire, in Walmart, or Porcupine Mall, lose service from Timmins to Chelmsford, and same other way. I would recomend bell or telus. Better cell coverage. Been with rogers since 2004, its good for me because i do not travel.

Welcome to Timmins!

You lose Rogers' service at the Porcupine Mall? You should be since the tower located to the NW of there and is clearly visible should be covering there pretty well. [think I had/have NorthernTel and I had service in most of the mall except the very back of Metro or GT.

EDIT: It is possible that the South Porcupine tower is not working at full power too.

LTE is the latest Fad and you can see South Porcupine does not have LTE.

So no LTE coverage in that end of town. The other networks do.

LTE service is not available for anyone in South End regardless of the provider. I had LTE in Timmins but not at home. Don't forget that pretty much only affects data, not texting or voice calls....(not that anyone uses them for that these days...[teehee)

My phone is always in LTE and I live in SoPo. In the mall it goes to 4G or no service.
