Coun. Walter Wawrzaszek wants traffic lights removed

Coun. Walter Wawrzaszek introduced the move at the city council table this week saying he wanted to have signal lights removed from Shirley Street and Lafleur Drive, and also at the Pine Street and Kirby Avenue intersection, and removing the traffic lights from Riverside by Canadian Tire gas bar and on Waterloo by Wendy’s.

[nuts IMO.

Doesn't this come up every few years?

Yes and he's right. Former Councillor Scipnick will be pissed if the lights at Lafleur and Shirley are taken down.

That's the only removal that makes sense.

The ones on Waterloo can go away as well except some sort of safe crossing is still needed for pedestrians.

all those lights can go. PIne and kirby can become a 4 way... even a 2 way East west on Kirby. Those lights at the Canadian Tire are seldom used.. most people turn at home depot or middle of the block. Otherwise you are going past your destination for a left turn to come back. Stupidest lights ever. Waterloo needs a xwalk. Not a light.

I disagree. Screw this 4-way stop non-sense.

To say something is seldom used would require you being there to witness the usage, or lack there of. Oh wait, we can spend some money on a study. [money Leave well enough alone.

The savings Wally cites would be negligible in the grand scheme of things. Although it might pay for another fancy stainless flag pole to run Klingon flags up.

The Waterloo one was poorly placed in the first place and could be replaced with a crosswalk, more money, and relocated.

The CTC lights are dumb. I agree about making Kirby a two-way stop for traffic on Kirby. The Waterloo lights' location were messed up since they got installed. Shirley and LaFleur.....is iffy only because when there is a detour and everyone has to go that way it helps some, from my memory. What they SHOULD have done...IMO, was make Lafleur go directly into Shirley Street towards Riverside. Make it a "T" intersection with the part of Shirley.

You hate 4 way stop signs? Don't come down here. Budgetman would lose his mind. [rant

the Waterloo ones should be moved to next to scotiabank or in between the entrance and exit to hollinger court

good, there is no need for them. people cross willy nilly anyway. more than half the time people cross without using them or people don't even see its red when exiting from metro anyway. or even the wendys. its a bad location and a stupid idea that its time has come to remove them.just like the lights at kirby, the lights on shirley, park and lafleur. the ctc ones are stupid as well.

I concur. The savings can pay for more stainless steel flag poles for city hall.

What? I thought it was going for more heated steps? Or more consultant studies? Or more flowers for downtown? Or more downtown improvements for the BIA? Or more developer freebies?

EDIT: The stuff listed above happens EVERYWHERE. NEVER gonna change. If you expect it to change, you're dreaming or insane, one or the other.

One intersection that needs lights is Hwy 655 and Ross.

Hwy 655 is under the MTO so maybe they can pay for it.

Try turning left off of Ross to go up 655. You gotta floor it so you don't get killed by the speed demons coming over the little hill north of the intersection or those flying around the corner onto Ross from 101.

Keep momentum going by utilizing the ever popular rolling stop. Problem solved.

Never seen 655 as an issue. No lights needed. Just common sense.
