The goal being to establish a long term vision and actual plan on how to accomplish the vision, hoping this will be the tool to effectively drive the completion of this important community asset. At a very high view, the goal is to tie together Hector Lake at the Polar Bear Habitat to the south and Lillabelle Lake to the north providing for expansive walking, biking and touring trails.
These trails would be centered by Lake Commando and the downtown core of the community. At the same time, developing Lake Commando to have well lit and easy to walk on trails, majestic lookouts and gathering places, strategically located docks, fountains, colourful vegetation, transplanted mature trees, all centered by an iconic Pavilion and interpretive center right on the peninsula.
The primary scope is to rethink how we plan around people and cars. Typically, cars have been the priority, however, there is a shift to focus more on people now. Helping our community get out of the house and enjoy the beauty of our town and our wonderful way of life.
Trails around and connecting these lakes, as well as possibly throughout the town itself, would be a tremendous facilitator of getting people out and about and enjoying the special place in the world where we live – not to mention another unique attraction it would offer our community regionally.
The first phase has been completed and involved the Town having an Architect and an engineering company lay out the initial vision and costs. Now, it’s time to engage the public and work out a common vision and direction.
