On Monday, October 19 the Timmins Transit, through the direction of Council, will be running an additional, accessible bus service to get Schumacher voters to and from the polling station, located at Porcupine Ski Runners.

The bus will run between Noon and 8pm, collecting residents every 30 minutes. Stops will be located at Schumacher Public School and the corners of Croatia Avenue and Aura Lake Street, and Aura Lake Street and Father Costello Drive. Temporary signage will be installed to identify the pick-up locations.

Regular bus fares will apply for the round-trip service (Seniors-$2.25, Adults-$2.75, and bus passes will also be accepted).

The school where you can catch the bus is the better location, even The Mac. Who dreams up these schemes anyway?

Thirty minutes to go from the school out to the Ski Runners then back and leave again. Geez, don't let them be sitting there for 10 to 15 minutes doing nothing. [think

The local media should ask Elections Canada. You know they won't though. Too scared to ask a fair and slightly hard question.

I bet on empty buses... a few people bitched on facebook and made the city react for no reason. Polling stations have been in remote locations before (Cook's lake lodge) and people have always managed. On Facebook, they complained about that horrible left turn coming out of ski runners back onto the highway but dozens of skiers and snowshoeers manage that same left turn in the dead of winter. Waste of money.

And anyone who wants to vote can call any of the candidates for a ride to the polls and they'll drive them for free.... you don't even have to call the candidate that you'll vote for.

I heard one election day story of a party that had a phone line reserved for people to call to get rides to the polls. For whatever reason, they didn't have enough volunteer drivers that day, so they would call the other candidates asking for rides for those who called their headquarters. Brilliant... kept the other team busy driving their supporters around all day.

I can't find the original story they did where Elections Canada said they would look into moving the polling station, but here is the video where they follow up with the Shuttle Bus story.
